Atlanta News: Thrashers extend D Dustin Byfuglien

Today, the Atlanta Thrashers extended defenseman Dustin Byfuglien’s contract for five-years, $26 million (ESPN News link)

Since acquiring the bruising defenseman who made a name for himself last post-season as part of the Chicago Blackhawk’s run to the Stanley Cup, Byfuglien has added the necessary star power to a young, promising Thrashers squad. This year, Byfuglien leads the team in scoring (43 points), goals (17) and assists (26). He is also 5th among NHL defensemen in scoring.
